Chicago rally preparing for the March on Washington

Clory Lee Bryant is standing next to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as she speaks before Chicago activists who are preparing to travel to Washington, DC for the historic March on Washington in the summer of 1963.

Across the world, then and now, everyday people are activating their communities to get free. Imagine all of the collective, gritty work leading up to the electrifying moment captured in this photo. Imagine all that came after. This is the essence of Ujima.

Collective Work & Responsibility

Ujima Cooperative was formed out of the desire to support the work of grassroots and community-led initiatives in overlooked and underestimated communities, specifically those of the African diaspora. The founders, Clory and Mouhamadou (Clo & Mo), shared a passion for serving their community, but found it challenging to make a living and raise a family all while continuing their social justice work.

Through Ujima Cooperative, Clo and Mo are committed to removing the barriers that keep people from the necessary movement work to create a truly free and thriving society.
